Thanyapura was created with the single aim of helping others optimise their potential and live a more fulfilling life: through education, through mind management, through health and through sport.
Building the US$250 million Thanyapura development and UWC Thailand centre from the ground up, McCormack focused on High Performance opportunities aligned with exceptional educational opportunities as a way to build the Thanyapura brand, and changed the face of sport in Southeast Asia.
Sitting as the Executive Chairman and CEO of the project, McCormack launched the centre in 2014. Thanyapura was then awarded Asia’s Premier Sports Resort for 4 consecutive years. They hosted the 2014 Davis Cup Tennis tournament and aligned with Maria Sharapova to offer a training base for Tennis Champions prior to the Australian Open each year. The Olympic Swimming programs built off the back of the MX Endurance High Performance offering saw almost every major swimming nation in the World utilise the centre in their build up to the Rio Olympic Games and continue into the Tokyo Olympics. Thanyapura became the benchmark for Sport and Wellness in the region.
In 2016, alongside the Queen of Jordan and the Minister of Education of Thailand, McCormack opened Thailand’s first ever United World College and the 14th school in the global UWC school network. Regarded as the gold standard in international schools, UWC Thailand became the first sports-focused school in Asia and saw 26 athletes from this single school compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil.
