With Super League Triathlon preps in full swing, I’ve flown back to Australia and will be here for the next four weeks getting this show on the road!
Some people ask me why I did it. Most people laughed at us and called it impossible. But as I transitioned out of the sport into corporate life, I felt a responsibility to create a system that gives relevance to triathletes at the professional level. I’d done well in the sport, but if this sport doesn’t survive on the professional level then it’s an ink spot. It deserves to be more than that!
I believe in triathlon — I believe triathletes are some of the most gifted, articulate, spectacular role models on earth. Without a consistent media platform to showcase these qualities, we fall into the current established sport as you know it today, with professional athletes as a side show.
I don’t just want people to see these athletes on the screen swimming, biking, and running. I want those characters to be revealed and for people to develop strong feelings about an athlete, like how football fans feel about Messi or tennis fans about Novak Djokovic. So my primary focus is these are sports personalities, amazing athletes.
Triathlon gave me my life, and its survival at a professional level for the future generation is something I feel strongly about. We have lots of people in our sport who are happy to criticise forward progress, but ask yourself: of all those complaining, how many are actioning real change for the professional side of this sport?
I invite you to be a part of this change. I know you love this sport, and I believe this is the way forward.
